L’Oréal True Match Foundation Review!

Hi everyone!

Today I’m doing a review on L’Oréal True Match Foundation. I have been reading and hearing about this foundation for ages, but never tried it myself. I don’t usually use L’Oréal, the reason for that is; I think it’s a bit expensive for being drugstore when I compare it to Maybelline and Rimmel and I don’t think it’s better. That’s why I always end up with Rimmel or Maybelline products when shopping.

Outlet with L’Oréal

I was recently at an outlet here in Denmark where L’Oréal had a huge sale with around 80% off and the women working there were really nice. I decided that now was the time to try the foundation and I could get help with the right color directly from L’Oréal.

I ended up with three of these foundations as I got a packed deal for a total of 10 pounds, which is a great price! The woman at L’Oréal suggested that I got the color D2-W2, which is really light with a yellowish undertone.

I just have to say it; I don’t like this foundation! First, it’s so thin that it’s annoying to work with. Second, the coverage is not good because this foundation is made for a small amount of coverage and if you want a better coverage you can just build it on your skin, which I again don’t like. I think it looks bad on the skin with more layers, you can really see how it’s a layer on the skin and it’s hard to blend with a concealer or powder on top of it.

The way I use it

The only way I can use this foundation with an okay result, is when I blend it on my skin with a day cream on. This way it blends better on the skin and doesn’t just lie on top of the skin.

The only nice thing I have to say about this foundation is the matte finish of it, but the rest I don’t like. This foundation will work for some people and their skin, but for my skin with a lot of breakouts it’s just really bad.

I would also have liked this foundation with a pink undertone as the yellow one doesn’t suit me at all! I’m really disappointed by the people working at L’Oréal for picking this color for me.

I will definitely stay with my Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation or Rimmel Match Perfection foundation, both better and less expensive in my opinion.

Have you tried this foundation and what did you think? Please let me know if I’m doing something wrong with this foundation?

It’s disappointing when a foundation doesn’t work properly. I always struggle to find a ‘true match’ for my skin.

    • It’s so hard to find the perfect foundation, you probably have to mix your own for it 🙁

I just keep hearing positive reviews on this foundation, so it’s nice to hear another point of view.

    • It seems like everyone loves it! It’s probably great for other skin types than mine, but now I at least tried it 🙂

  • You are so right, if I had only just bought my favorite Rimmel foundations instead! I hope you figure out a way to use your foundation 🙂

I used this foundation for a long, long time. For a while the shade Rose Ivory was the closest thing I could find to my skintone, as I’m very pale. That has a pink undertone and I found it quite good for a while, until I found something even paler (L’oreal Infallible, which is closer to my skintone but far too thick, lol) I like the sheer-ness of it, as a lot of foundations I find just too thick and cakey. It was never very good for covering spots, as, like you say, it’s quite thin and watery. Also, I found it didn’t photograph well, which is quite important to me (I’m a photographer) so I stopped using it.

I’m hearing loads of things about Rimmel foundations, they are next on my list to try 🙂 xx

    • I was looking at the L’oreal Infallible as well, but choose this one as it was the one I was recommended. You might not like the Rimmel foundations if you don’t like to thick foundations as they are a bit more thick. It’s funny I felt like this one was cakey because it didn’t blend well. One day we will find out true match 😉

I’ve heard a lot about this foundation. Shame that this wasn’t as fantastic for you as it seems to be for everyone else. xx

    • It’s such a shame, but yeah everyone has different skin types 🙂
