SEO Guide for Blogger

Hi everyone!

Last week I did an SEO guide for beginners. This week I wanted to do an SEO guide for Bloggers. If you don’t know anything about SEO I would recommend you read the guide from last week first.

Meta Description

Today’s guide will be about how you as a Blogger can make some changes to your blog. It’s always important to write a meta description about your blog and blogposts. To do so, go to Settings -> Search preferences where you can enable search description.

This way you can write 150 characters about your blog, which will be what Google shows people in its search results.

This also means that every time you write a new blogpost you will be able to write a description of it. Think of this as a way to include your keywords into a text that sounds exciting for people to read. This is what Google will know about your blogpost and what it shows in the search results when your specific blogpost is found.

Permalinks or URL Address

Your permalinks (URL address) for each post is generated by Google and it will be the date and the title of your blogpost. This is a good permalink, but if you for some reason wants to change it, you can do it by choosing Custom Permalink. This could be this way the date won’t be there and it’s more specific.

Image Description – ALT Text And Title

Every time you post an image in a blogpost it’s a good idea to also give it an ALT text and a title. This can be done by clicking on the image and choose properties.

The ALT text is a description of the image for people who can’t see it (could be because of loading time) and the title text is a longer description of the image. By doing this your images will be searchable too. If someone is searching for a picture of Real Techniques brushes your image could end up being the one they find and your blog.

Google Analytics

A last I would recommend setting up a Google Analytics for your blog, this will give you a better and more in depth understanding of the people looking at your blog. Go to Settings -> Other to type your Web Property ID.

I hope it all makes sense and you found this post useful. If you want to read more about how to make your Google Blogger stand out I have more of these posts in my blogger tips series.

Next week will be a blogpost for all the people using WordPress. In the meantime you can read my blogpost on how to work your permalinks in WordPress.

Leave a comment below with any questions, what you thought about the post and what you would like to see more of.
